Russell
Ingall
Branded the ‘Enforcer’ when he debuted
in V8 Supercars, Russell Ingall has brought a mountain of international
and V8 experience to Paul Morris’ Supercheap Auto-branded
team over the past two seasons.
A Formula Ford Festival winner in the United
Kingdom with Formula 3 experience in Germany and Japan, Ingall
was first signed up by Larry Perkins in late 1995 to co-drive
with him at Sandown and Bathurst. The duo won at Bathurst
and Ingall found himself in a second Castrol Commodore – the
first time Perkins had ever run two cars.
The perennial bridesmaid, Ingall would finish
runner-up in the series in numerous occasions, but he and Perkins
would be the ideal endurance combination, winning Bathurst
again in 1997, the Sandown 500 in 1998 and the inaugural Queensland
500 in 1999.
The partnership dissolved in 2002 and Ingall
headed to Stone Brothers Racing and Ford. After being in the
shadow of teammate Marcos Ambrose, Ingall would finally achieve
his goal of becoming V8 Supercar Champion in 2005. After four
seasons with SBR, Ingall moved back to Holden for 2008 and
joined Paul Morris in a highly experienced line-up. Some questioned
why the team would take on Ingall but he responded to his knockers
in the best possible fashion with two podium finishes and plenty
of top 10 results to prove that there is life in ‘The
Enforcer’ yet.
Last year he was again a force with further
visits to the podium, but the arrival of Triple Eight-built
Commodores for the team in 2010 means that Ingall will again
be strong in his 15th season in the V8 Supercar Series. |
